Summary of: One in three women have experienced physical or sexual violence from partner

Although issues makes emphases in the woman protection against the different types of gender violence, papers says one in three women have experienced physical or sexual violence from their partners, that it is consider very high. This papers call governments to take actions about this topic, and suggest that the problem must not be understood as an individual stuff, but a phenomenon with economic, social and cultural causes.

The papers also include that, along history, women have to face a lot of types of violence, and they have had to fight for their rights against the hiding, the ignorance and the abuses. In the other hand, also are important to make visible the magnitude of sexual violence against children. In the papers declares that it is possible to make real changes in this area. The evidence support the idea of it is possible to generate changes in the attitudes and the behaviours.

I chose this topic because, if we have to consider the area of our career for doing it, I think the question about gender is very important for the psychology and the development of social sciences. This story, about gender and sexual violence, are related to the area of gender studies, and its theme is very problematic –as theory as practice– for our society. Psychology and social sciences have the duty to observe by a critic way the phenomenon of violence, how it expresses and to give some ideas about how to face it.
